About Us
Local experts you can trust — protecting Albany homes and businesses from rodents with proven methods, honest service, and lasting results.
Contact UsThe Local Company Behind the Phone Number
When you call Albany Rodent Control, you reach a local company working out of 69 State Street. We are not a national franchise or a booking service that sells your call to whoever is free. We are the people who come to the house, go down into the cellar and up into the attic, and stay with the job until it is finished.
Based at 69 State Street, Albany, NY 12207
Direct local technicians covering Pine Hills, Center Square, Mansion District & the Capital Region. Open 7 Days, 9 AM to 8 PM.
We do one thing: rodents. Mice, rats and squirrels, plus the raccoons and moles that come with the territory. Keeping that narrow focus is what lets us know Albany's houses well, from the rubble-stone cellars of the Mansion District to the postwar capes of Crestwood.
Everything we do comes back to one idea: Killing the rodents in a house is only half the job. Finding the gap they used and closing it is what ends the problem.
How We Work Differently
Inspection Before Anything Else
We do not quote a price or set a trap until we have looked at the building, cellar to roofline. The rodent inspection tells us the animal, the entry points and how far it has spread, and it tells you exactly what you are paying for.
A Written Quote Before Work Starts
You get the scope in writing: what we will trap, which gaps we will seal and with what materials, and what it costs. No surprises, no hidden line items, and no unexpected add-ons at the end of the project.
Sealing, Not Just Trapping
Traps take care of what is inside tonight. Rodent exclusion with steel mesh, sheet metal, copper mesh and mortar keeps the next ones out for good. We treat trapping and sealing as one unified job.
Plain Answers and Photos
We show you what we found and what we fixed, with photos of the tight cellar sills and roof eaves you will never climb into yourself. If the honest answer is that you do not need us, that is the exact answer you get.
Why We Built It This Way
Albany is a hard city to keep rodents out of.
Much of its housing went up before 1940, much of it on stone foundations, with wooden sills, coal chutes, cellar windows and a century of pipes and wires added through the walls. Whole blocks share party walls and cellars. Winters are long, and the first frost each October sends mice looking for a way in.
In houses like that, the usual approach fails. A visit that leaves a few bait boxes behind clears some mice and leaves every entry point open. A gap patched with spray foam is chewed open again by spring. The homeowner pays again next winter, and the winter after. So we built the company the other way around: Every job starts with finding how the animals get in. Trapping removes what is already inside. Sealing in metal, mesh and mortar closes the building. Then we check that it holds.
A Local Company, Not a Lead Service
Some websites that come up when you search for pest control in Albany are not pest control companies at all. They collect your call and sell it on to whoever will buy it. When you call us, the company you talk to is the company that does the work, and the people who quote the job are the people who stand behind it.
What We Do
Our main page covers our full rodent control service in Albany (albanyrodentcontrol.us). In short, the work breaks down across five core divisions:
| Service Division | What It Involves |
|---|---|
| Inspection | A cellar-to-roofline look at the building to find the animal species, all primary/secondary entry points and the true extent of the problem. |
| Rodent Trapping | The right traps on the active travel routes rodents already use, checked on strict schedule, every single catch removed and recorded. |
| Exclusion | Sealing every entry point with quarter-inch galvanized steel mesh, sheet metal flashing, copper wire mesh and masonry mortar. |
| Attic Work | Humane removal, specialized cleanup of droppings and soiled insulation, and permanent roofline, eave and ridge-vent sealing. |
| Crawl Spaces | Humane removal, sanitization cleanup and structural sealing of foundation vents, crawl hatches, plumbing penetrations and foundation gaps. |
Species We Specialize In
We maintain deep biological expertise in the wildlife and rodents native to Albany County:
We service private single-family homes, historic rowhouses, multi-unit rental buildings, downtown restaurants, and commercial properties.
The Seasons We Plan Around
Rodent work in Albany follows the Northeast weather closely enough to plan a whole year around it:
Late Summer Sealing
The premier time to seal a home before anything has moved in. We reserve dedicated schedule windows for comprehensive exterior exclusion.
First Frost Pressure
The first hard freeze drives mice indoors. Our busiest season, with urgent calls for kitchen scratching, cellar noises and cavity wall runs.
Winter Nesting
Established mice inside heated walls, Norway rats nesting near cellar boilers, and flying squirrels communal nesting in wooded attics.
Spring Thaw & Breeding
Gray squirrels select attic insulation to raise litters; snowmelt floods underground burrows, pushing rats into ground-level foundations.
Campus Turnover
Student move-out and move-in across Pine Hills and college avenues generates discarded food and shifts rodent pressure between two-family flats.
How Pricing Works
We do not publish an arbitrary one-size-fits-all price list, because two houses on the same Albany street can be completely different jobs. A newer suburban ranch with three small pipe gaps and a 19th-century brownstone with a rubble-stone cellar and a shared party wall are completely different structural realities.
Our Transparent 4-Step Pricing Standard:
- Clear Initial Fee: We tell you the exact flat cost of the comprehensive inspection when you book your appointment.
- Detailed Written Quote: After inspecting cellar to ridge, you receive a written quote specifying what we will do and the total cost.
- Transparent Line-Item Breakdown: The quote itemizes trapping, sealing materials and cleanup separately so you know where every dollar goes.
- No Authorization, No Work: Nothing outside the approved quote is ever performed without consulting you first.
What We Don't Do
How a company works is defined just as much by what it refuses to do. These six practices are completely excluded from our service:
We don't put loose poison in your home
Poisoned rodents die inside wall cavities and subfloors, causing horrific decay odors. Loose bait puts household pets and Capital Region wildlife at severe risk.
We don't use glue boards for rodents
Glue traps are unnecessarily cruel, prolong suffering for days, and mostly catch juvenile animals while adult breeders avoid them entirely.
We don't seal animals inside
The primary entry hole is sealed only after the house is confirmed completely quiet. Trapping animals inside forces them to chew through interior drywall.
We don't call spray foam a repair
Expanding foam and caulk are backing materials and weather finishes, never structural barriers. Rodents chew through foam in under 20 minutes.
We don't sell work you don't need
If two heavy-duty door sweeps and copper pipe collars solve your mouse issue, that is exactly what your quote will specify—nothing more.
We don't use scare tactics
Rodents are a serious health and fire hazard, but we present facts, photos and building science plainly without exaggerating risks to force a sale.
Albany, Neighborhood by Neighborhood
We work across the city and the Capital Region communities around it. Because architecture dictates rodent behavior, each neighborhood exhibits distinct pressure:
| Albany Area / Neighborhood | What We See Most Frequently |
|---|---|
| Center Square, Hudson/Park, Mansion District | Historic brick and brownstone rowhouses, rubble-stone cellars, continuous party walls, and mice travelling between adjoining buildings. |
| Arbor Hill, West Hill, South End | Older wood-frame rowhouses, vacant neighboring structures creating rodent reservoirs, and Norway rats near the Hudson River, the Port and rail corridors. |
| Pine Hills, Delaware Ave, Helderberg, Melrose | Classic two-family wood frames with open porches, full cellars and continuous wall balloon framing, plus gray squirrels under mature street canopies. |
| Buckingham Lake, Crestwood, New Scotland, Whitehall | Postwar capes, split-levels and ranches, attached garages, concrete block foundations, and field mice migrating in from parklands and wooded lots. |
| Downtown, Warehouse District, North Albany | Converted industrial lofts, commercial food waste, restaurant dumpsters, and Norway rat activity along alleys and foundation slabs. |
Licensing and Insurance: What They Protect You From
In New York, structural rodent control and wildlife extraction are strictly regulated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC). These are the mandatory credentials that protect your home, and what each safeguards:
| Credential | What It Protects You From | Our Status |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification (Cat 7A) | Required by NYS law to apply commercial rodent control methods for a fee. Ensures rigorous chemical safety and structural pest standards. | Certified DEC Category 7A |
| Pesticide Business Registration | Mandatory legal registration for any pest control business operating within New York State borders. | DEC Registered Business |
| Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator (NWCO) License | Mandatory state license required to humanely trap and remove vertebrate wildlife such as squirrels, raccoons and bats. Renewed annually. | DEC Licensed NWCO |
| General Liability Insurance | Protects your property against accidental damage during high-ladder roofline work, masonry sealing or cellar repairs. | Fully Insured ($2M Coverage) |
| Workers' Compensation | Protects our technicians if injured on your property so that medical and disability liability never falls on the property owner. | Active NYS Coverage |
